Brown Banded Bamboo Shark / Chiloscyllium punctatum
It takes its name from the lines on its brown skin when they are younger. As we age, the lines disappear and turn completely brown. They can reach lengths exceeding one meter. They are mostly active at night and spend most of the day hiding in small gaps in the reefs. They emerge after dark to hunt. They can survive on land or in a low-oxygen environment for up to 12 hours, an adaptation that allows them to survive in intertidal zones where they are frequently seen. Their lifespan can extend up to 25 years under suitable environmental conditions.
