Blue-yellow macaws, also known as yellow-breasted macaws, are large members of the parrot family found in Central and South America. They weigh approximately two kilograms. Their bright colors and loud calls are important tools for communication, but they also make them easy targets for poachers. Their long tail feathers are mostly blue and yellow. The chin and cheek area are pinkish-white with fine black feather stripes.
The color is dull in juveniles and becomes brighter with age. These parrots have a grey-black hooked beak. Their dark grey feet have two toes pointing forward and two toes pointing backward, each with a black claw.
They are monogamous. They will not be interested in another parrot until their mate dies.
