Livebearer Fishes / Livebearer Fishes
As their name suggests, livebearers are fish that give birth to live, free-swimming fry. The term is used to refer to a specific group of fish belonging to the Poeciliidae family. These fish prefer to swim in groups. They enjoy exploring and resting in caves and behind plants. Examples of species that are staples in aquariums include swordtails, mollies, guppies, and platies. With an average lifespan of 5 to 7 years, livebearers are relatively long-lived. Depending on water conditions, temperature, and diet, livebearers can give birth to fry every four to eight weeks.
